Product Description

The Hoshizaki KMD-860MRJZ is a 30-inch remote-cooled modular crescent cuber producing up to 967 pounds of ice per 24 hours. The condensing unit mounts outdoors or on the roof, leaving only the icemaker head in the building.

What Remote Cooling Buys You

Splitting the condenser off the machine solves the two problems a 900-pound-plus air-cooled head creates indoors: waste heat and noise. Nothing is rejected into the kitchen, nothing competes with the HVAC, and the compressor noise leaves with the condenser. It is the standard approach in hotels, hospitals and high-volume restaurants where the icemaker sits near a service area. The trade-off is a refrigeration line set between head and condenser, so this is a job for a refrigeration contractor rather than a plug-and-play install.

Production and Efficiency

967 pounds a day is the top of the KMD-860 range and roughly 110 pounds more than the air-cooled version of the same cabinet, because the remote condenser does not have to fight ambient kitchen heat. Energy use is 5.05 kWh per 100 pounds at 90°F/70°F and potable water use is a notably low 18 gallons per 100 pounds — the least water per pound of any head in this family. The freezing section uses Hoshizaki's dual-sided stainless steel evaporator.

Sizing and Storage

This is a head unit; no bin is included. It is designed to pair with Hoshizaki's 30-inch bin line, and because storage is chosen separately you can size the bin to your service peak instead of your daily total. Ice is Hoshizaki's crescent cube — hard, slow-melting, and easy to scoop without bridging.
