Product Description

The Hoshizaki KM-830MAK2 is a 30-inch air-cooled Crescent Cuber head making 777 pounds of ice per 24 hours on R290 natural refrigerant. Unlike the rest of the MAK range it runs on 208-230V rather than 115V, which is how it delivers the highest output in the family from a modest 6.4 amp draw.

208-230V supply, 6.4 amps

Moving to the higher voltage halves the current for the same work. At 6.4 amps on a 20 amp maximum fuse, the machine barely registers on a commercial panel — useful in a kitchen where every 115V branch is already spoken for and a 208V circuit is easier to find than another 20 amp single-pole. It is hardwired at the site with three wires including ground; no cord or plug is supplied.

R290 at the top of the MAK range

The sealed circuit carries 10.9 ounces of R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant, which keeps the machine outside HFC phase-down schedules for its whole service life. Energy consumption is 4.4 kWh per 100 pounds of ice at 90/70 conditions, with water use of 30 gallons per 100 pounds — the highest in the MAK line, so factor that in where water is metered aggressively.

Cabinet and ice

The head measures 30 inches wide, 24-5/8 inches deep and 28 inches tall, and sits on a 30-inch bin or dispenser. Ice is Hoshizaki's crescent cube, flat on one face and curved on the other, which packs a glass evenly, resists bridging in the bin and melts slowly in a drink. CycleSaver design and the EverCheck alert system handle cycle efficiency and fault warning.
