Product Description

The Hoshizaki KM-81BAK is the R290 replacement generation of Hoshizaki's narrowest self-contained crescent cuber. It holds the same 17-3/4 inch footprint and 38 lb bin but lifts daily output to 98 lb while cutting energy use, which makes it a straightforward swap for a small bar, break room or coffee counter.

R290 natural refrigerant

The BAK generation runs on R290, a hydrocarbon refrigerant with very low global warming potential, using a charge of just 3 oz. Alongside the refrigerant change the machine draws 2.4 amps and 5.6 kWh per 100 lb of ice at 90/70, against 7.95 kWh for the R-134a KM-81BAJ it succeeds. It carries the Natural Refrigerant certification and is ENERGY STAR qualified.

Crescent cube and CycleSaver design

Crescent cubes are half-moon shaped with a flat face. They stay loose in the bin rather than fusing, and their solid form melts slowly in the glass. Hoshizaki's CycleSaver design keeps the evaporator working through more of the harvest cycle, which is where the extra 12 lb per day over the previous model comes from. An EverCheck alert system flags service conditions on the front panel.

Installation

Air-cooled and cord-connected on a NEMA 5-15 plug with a 6.5 ft cord, so it needs a standard 115V 15A circuit, a potable water line and a drain. The bin opening is ADA compliant. This is a self-contained cabinet and does not stack.
