The Hoshizaki KM-660MWJ is a 22-inch water-cooled modular Crescent Cuber head producing 647 pounds of ice per 24 hours. It is the largest water-cooled machine in Hoshizaki's slim-line range, for high-demand installations in rooms that cannot absorb the heat an air-cooled unit of this size would produce.

The efficiency case

At 4.28 kWh per 100 pounds of ice at 90/70 conditions, this machine uses noticeably less electricity than the air-cooled KM-660MAJ's 5.12 for essentially the same output. Water carries heat away better than air, so the compressor runs against a lower head pressure and for less time. The offset is 16.1 gallons of potable water per 100 pounds. Whether that is a good trade depends entirely on local utility rates — worth calculating rather than assuming.

Consistent output, low draw

Water-cooled condensing also means production does not fall away as the room warms, which matters when the machine is sized to just cover peak demand. The unit draws 12.35 amps on a 115V single-phase circuit against a 20 amp maximum fuse, three wires including ground, hardwired at the site — a lighter load than the air-cooled equivalent's 15.2 amps.

Crescent cube ice and bin pairing

Ice forms on double-sided stainless steel KM Edge evaporators into Hoshizaki's crescent shape, which packs a glass without bridging, drains cleanly and melts slowly. This is a head only. Hoshizaki's B-250 through B-1300 bins and the DB-130H, DB-200H and DM-200B dispensers are compatible.
