The Hoshizaki KM-330MAK is a 30-inch wide, 22-inch tall air-cooled Crescent Cuber head making 431 pounds of ice per 24 hours. The short cabinet is the point: at 22 inches high it clears low ceilings, soffits and overhead shelving that a 28-inch head will not, while still sitting on a full-size 30-inch bin or dispenser.

Low-profile 30-inch cabinet

Most modular heads are tall and narrow. This one is the opposite — wide and short — which changes where it can be installed. Stacked on a tall bin such as the BD-500SF, the combined height stays within reach for staff scooping ice and under the ductwork in a retrofit. It also mates with the DB-200H and DM-200B dispensers and the IBD30 for self-serve applications.

R290 natural refrigerant

The machine runs a 5.3 ounce sealed charge of R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant. That takes it out of the HFC phase-down entirely, so the unit will not need a refrigerant conversion or an early replacement as regulations tighten. Electrically it is a 115V single-phase machine drawing 8.6 amps on a 15 amp maximum fuse, hardwired at the site.

Ice and running costs

Ice forms in Hoshizaki's crescent shape — flat on one face, curved on the other — which packs a glass tightly, resists bridging in the bin and melts slowly in a drink. Ultrasonic bin control stops the machine when the bin is full rather than relying on a mechanical paddle. Hoshizaki rates consumption at 5.55 kWh and 25 gallons of potable water per 100 pounds of ice at 90/70 conditions.

Warranty

Hoshizaki covers the KM-330MAK with three years parts and labor on the entire machine and five years parts on the compressor and air-cooled condenser coil.
