Product Description

The Hoshizaki KM-231BAK is a self-contained crescent cuber that makes up to 223 lb of ice a day into an 80 lb built-in bin, all within a 24 inch wide cabinet. It sits at the point in the undercounter range where a busy bar or a full dining room stops outrunning the machine.

Output where it counts

223 lb a day from a 24 inch footprint is roughly 70 lb more than the 23-3/4 inch KM-161BAK, on essentially the same bin. That extra make rate is what keeps a bin topped up during a long service rather than merely refilling it overnight. If your problem is running dry at 9pm rather than at open, this is the size step that fixes it.

R290 refrigerant and CycleSaver

The machine runs on R290, a low-GWP hydrocarbon refrigerant, on a 4.1 oz charge, and draws 5.2 amps. Hoshizaki's CycleSaver design keeps the evaporator producing through more of each cycle, which is where the efficiency figure of 6.2 kWh per 100 lb at 90/70 comes from. An EverCheck alert system surfaces service conditions on the front panel before they become a callout.

Crescent cube and installation

Crescent cubes are half-moons with one flat face. They stay loose in the bin instead of welding into a block and melt slowly in a glass. The unit is air-cooled and cord-connected on a NEMA 5-15 plug with a 6.5 ft cord, needing a 115V 15A circuit, potable water and a gravity drain. The bin opening is ADA compliant. It does not stack on a separate bin.
