Product Description

The Hoshizaki KM-1900SWJ is a water-cooled Crescent Cuber head producing up to 1,880 pounds of ice per 24 hours on a single-phase 208-230V supply. Water-cooled condensing makes it the version to specify when the machine room cannot take the heat an air-cooled unit of this size would throw off, and when running a refrigerant line set to a remote condenser is not practical.

The most efficient of the 1,900 family

At 3.2 kWh per 100 pounds of ice at 90/70 conditions, this is the lowest energy figure in Hoshizaki's 1,900-class lineup — the air-cooled sibling is rated 4.1. Water carries heat away far more effectively than air, so the compressor works against a lower and more stable condensing temperature. The counterweight is 16.1 gallons of potable water per 100 pounds of ice, which on a machine running near capacity is a real line item. It is worth pricing water and sewer against the kWh saving before choosing between the two.

Steady output in hot rooms

Air-cooled ice machines lose production as the room warms. A water-cooled condenser is largely indifferent to ambient temperature, so a kitchen that hits the high 80s in summer sees the rated 1,880 pounds rather than a derated number. Electrically it draws 15.8 amps single-phase on a 30 amp maximum fuse, four wires including ground; if the site has no neutral, Hoshizaki specifies the HS-5030 transformer kit.

Crescent cube ice and bins

Ice is formed on double-sided stainless steel KM Edge evaporators. Crescent cubes pack tightly in the glass, resist bridging in the bin and melt slowly. This is a head only; compatible bins are the B-800, B-900, B-1150, B-1300, B-1500 and B-1650, and two heads can be stacked on one bin.
