Product Description

The Hoshizaki KM-116BAK is the R290 generation of Hoshizaki's 23-3/4 inch undercounter crescent cuber. Same footprint and same 53 lb bin as the model it succeeds, but 130 lb of daily production and a sharply lower energy draw, which is what makes it worth specifying on a replacement as well as a new build.

R290 natural refrigerant

R290 is a hydrocarbon refrigerant with very low global warming potential, and this machine holds only 3.2 oz of it. The efficiency gain is real rather than cosmetic: 5.2 kWh per 100 lb at 90/70 conditions and a 3.4 amp running load, against 8.1 kWh and 5.5 amps on the R-134a KM-116BAJ. It is ENERGY STAR qualified and carries Hoshizaki's Natural Refrigerant certification.

Crescent cube ice

Crescent cubes are half-moons with a flat face. They stay loose in the bin instead of welding into a block, so the last scoop of a busy shift is as easy as the first, and their solid form dilutes a drink slowly. Expect roughly 130 lb a day at rated conditions from a 53 lb bin, so plan on the bin turning over more than twice.

Installation

Air-cooled, self-contained, and cord-connected on a NEMA 5-15 plug with a 6.5 ft cord. It needs a 115V 15A circuit, a potable water line and a gravity drain, with no condenser water and no remote rack. The bin opening is ADA compliant. This is a one-piece cabinet and does not stack on a separate bin.
