Product Description

The Hoshizaki DCM-271BAK makes and dispenses its own cubelet ice: 286 lb a day from a countertop cabinet 16-5/8 inches wide, with push-button ice and water. It is a complete ice point in a footprint that fits a nurses' station, a cafeteria beverage rail or a hotel lobby without rebuilding the counter.

Cubelet ice

Cubelet is Hoshizaki's mini nugget: soft, chewable, and made of compressed ice flakes rather than a frozen block. It absorbs the flavour of whatever it is sitting in, packs into a cup without leaving voids, and is easy to chew, which is why healthcare and quick-service operators specify it and why customers ask for it by name. It is also gentle on blenders and displaces well in a cup, so a drink fills with less liquid.

Maker and dispenser in one

Because the machine makes and dispenses, there is no separate head above a bin and no scoop. The 10 lb storage bin is small on purpose: the machine keeps up with demand rather than banking a reserve, and the ice never sits long enough to fuse. That also means the ice stays enclosed from evaporator to cup, which is the hygiene case for a self-serve area.

R290 and self-cleaning

The BAK generation runs R290, a low-GWP hydrocarbon refrigerant, on a 5.3 oz charge, drawing 6.4 amps and 5.3 kWh per 100 lb at 90/70. A self-cleaning cycle handles routine sanitation of the ice path between full services. The dispensing area is ADA compliant and the unit is cord-connected on a NEMA 5-15 plug.
